Can I take my dog to Texas?
To enter Texas and be in accordance with its state law, all dogs and cats 12 weeks of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies and be accompanied by a rabies vaccination certificate (or pet passport containing required information – see reference at end of letter) dated and signed by the veterinarian who administered the immunization.
- Veterinarians in Texas are restricted to using vaccines approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA); however, for entry purposes only, dogs and cats traveling into the state may be inoculated against rabies with killed, modified live, or recombinant vaccine.
- Once in Texas, if a USDA-approved vaccine was not used or the veterinarian who administered it was not licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the United States, compliance must be achieved.
For entry into Texas, the following criteria must be met:
at the time of vaccination, the animal was at least the minimum age prescribed for the vaccine; and the time elapsed since the most recent vaccination has not exceeded the recommended interval for the booster vaccination as established by the vaccine’s manufacturer.
Additionally, to qualify as being currently vaccinated, 30 days must have lapsed since the initial vaccination. Although not required by Texas law, most airlines require a health certificate issued by a veterinarian within seven to ten days prior to travel.
Check with your airline for their exact requirements. If the animal is arriving from another country and is less than 12 weeks of age, it shall be confined at home until 30 days after the animal’s initial vaccination is administered. Regardless of the animal’s age, if the initial vaccination was given less than 30 days prior to arrival, the animal must be confined for the balance of the 30 days.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may have additional requirements for animals arriving from another country; the CDC’s Division of Global Migration and Quarantine may be contacted at [email protected], 1-800-232-4636, or https://www.cdc.gov/importation/ for further information. Please keep in mind that, even if the CDC states that dogs or cats under certain circumstances do not need to be vaccinated against rabies for entry into the US, the animal still needs to be vaccinated against rabies in accordance with Texas state law for entry into Texas.
Contact the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for any country-specific travel/health certificates that might be required: 512-383-2400 (press 1) or https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel/, Be aware that as of July 14, 2021, there is a temporary suspension that prohibits the entry of dogs into the United States arriving from the countries determined by CDC to be high-risk countries for rabies. On an extremely limited basis, CDC has the authority to issue advance written approval (a CDC Dog Import Permit ) to bring a dog from a high-risk country.
If you wish to import a dog from a high-risk country, you must request advance written approval by emailing [email protected] at least 30 business days (6 weeks) before you intend to enter the United States. No CDC Dog Import Permits are issued upon arrival.
- Dogs that arrive from high-risk countries without advance written approval from CDC will be denied entry and returned to the country of departure at the importer’s expense.
- For details, including CDC’s list of high-risk countries, go to https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/high-risk.html,
If the animal is arriving from another state and is less than 12 weeks of age, home confinement is recommended until 30 days after the animal’s initial vaccination is administered. Regardless of the animal’s age, if the initial vaccination was given less than 30 days prior to arrival, the animal should be confined for the balance of the 30 days.
- After moving to Texas, ensure that your dog or cat remains in compliance with rabies vaccination requirements by contacting a veterinarian in your area, as local vaccination ordinances may be more restrictive than state law.
- If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Zoonosis Control at (512) 776-7255.

Do any Texas state parks allow dogs?
Pets – Can I bring my pet to a state park? You can bring your pets to almost all state parks! However, we do have some rules:
Pets must be on leash, in a car, or in a crate at all times. The leash can be no longer than 6 feet. You must be with your pet at all times. You may not leave your pet unattended in the park, in a vehicle, or at your campsite. Do not bring a noisy or dangerous dog to a state park. Pets are not allowed in any state park buildings. This includes motels, cabins, screened shelters, group facilities and restrooms. You must pick up your pet’s waste and put it in the trash. Pets are not allowed in the water or on the land around a designated swim area. Your pet must have a current rabies vaccination, and you must have proof with you. If you break these rules, you and your pet may be asked to leave!
Some of these rules do not apply to service dogs helping a person with a disability. Several of our parks do not allow dogs in specific areas of the park. This is to protect the park’s natural and cultural resources, and also to protect your pet. Parks with pet restrictions include:
Big Bend Ranch State Park (dog policies page) Enchanted Rock State Natural Area Government Canyon State Natural Area Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site Seminole Canyon
Refer to Texas State Park Regulations 59.134 (c) for more detailed information on animals.

Is Fiesta Texas plus size friendly?
Six Flags over Texas/Six Flags Fiesta Large Rider Question Hi, I am going to Texas this summer and am going to go to six flags in Arlington and San Antonio. Also, we are going to Sea World San Antonio. We have never been to these parks before, infact we have never been to a six flags before.
Me and my fiancee are large people and have some problems fitting on some rides at Cedar Point. I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what rides may cause us larger riders problems. Thanks. Fiesta and SFOT shouldnt be a problem on most rides depending on your size, obviously. Their B&M’s have bigboy seats and the 2 Premiers will accomadate larger riders with some effort.
If you have never ridden a “speghetti bowl” coaster you must ride Poltergeist. We found it to be a little rough but a real blast. Fiesta may be the best themed park around and was extremely clean. Roadrunner express and the Bugs Bunny water rides are must rides for the theming alone.
My wife and I are both larger people and had no problems with the rides we tried to ride at either park, so hopefully you wont either. If we could pick Fiesta up and move it to St. Louis we would as we really loved the park. Not the most rides but quality and the setting of the old quarry more than make up for the lack of rides.
Just a couple of G-Force junkies! While I don’t know your exact size, the two LIM Premier’s you’ll encounter (the aforementioned Poltergeist and Mr. Freeze at SFOT), could be a tight squeeze. There’s a seatbelt that has to click on a metal clip on one side of the rider.
- You should have no problems with the three B&M’s on your trip-Batman the Ride, Superman Krypton Coaster, and Batman the Ride in Disguise, or the ride better known as Great White at Seaworld.
- I think Steel Eel (it’s a Morgan afterall) was pretty roomy, but it’s been two years.
- Titan might cause you troubles, as well as Roadrunner Express, which I don’t remember being particularly roomy.
If you like flat rides, there’s only one park that really has a lot and that’s SFFT. There you’ll find a Chaos, Topspin, Wipeout, Frisbee, Skyscraper (upcharge attraction), and The Hustler, a teacup ride with pool balls. The first four listed are notoriously tight in room.
Do they have test seats in front of any of the rides that may cause us problems? What kind of restraints are on the other mentioned coasters/rides?If I recall correctly I rode chaos at CP with no problem last season. *** Edited 5/29/2004 2:45:55 AM UTC by Kally***
I agree with Intamin Fan, Premier’s LIM coasters can be a real tight squeeze. With lots of effort myself, I was barely able to squeeze into the ride, the seatbelt had to go the distance, but I still made it on. Hey Dan how big are you, if you don’t mind me asking.
- Just trying to get an idea if we will fit or not.
- Thanks *** Edited 5/29/2004 10:38:44 AM UTC by Kally*** Sorry, that would have been helpful, at the time I was 6’1″ and weighed 240lbs wit habout a 38″ waist (since then I’ve lost about 30lbs, so fitting on small coasters is no longer an issue for myself).
As I mentioned, the Premier coasters are a tough fit, but I had no problem with anything else, although Batman The Ride I had a tough time getting the seatbelt to click, but it seemed to be more of a problem that the belt is to short then anything, because there is a ton of room in those seats.
I was just in Texas this past March and back then I had a 46 inch waist which I have dropped almost to a 42 now but was able to get on everything at all the parks there with virtually no problem. I too have had problems getting on Wicked Twister but no problems for Raptor. The tightest fit I probably had was Poltergeist.
Mr. Freeze seemed to have a longer belt because it gave me no problem. I would say you really shouldn’t have any problems. I don’t really remember test seats near the rides. I guess I wasn’t paying attention. The parks in Texas are great so enjoy. There is also Astroworld in Houston if you have time.
- Though not as good as the other parks but still have some good coasters.
- Batman the Ride at SFOT has a test seat at the entrance.
- I agree that you should also hit Astroworld if time and money allows.
- You haven’t lived until you ridden Ultratwister, and the Texas Cyclone is awesome as well.
- Well, I’m going to be in Dallas for the National Junior Gold bowling tournament.
How far is Astroland from SFOT park? I will have extra time if I don’t qualify for the final 2 days of the tourney (which I don’t think I will). We are all getting season passes to Six Flags so going to Astroland wouldn’t be much problem depending how far away it is from Dallas.
We originally decided to go to San Antonio to go to Schlitterbahn water park and ended up wanting to go to SFFT and buying tickets for Sea World. We are spending a total of 13 nights in Texas. But some of the days need to be spent bowling. My parents are concerned that I want to go more for the parks than the bowling, which is probably true.
Its about a 4 hour drive from Dallas to Houston. You should be able to do all 4 parks in 4-5 days. We were able to do it in 4 days back in March with being able to ride everything more than once. We had a blast. Have fun. I’m 6’1″ and around 250 with a 39″ waist.
I rode everything at SFOT and SFFT last summer without any problems at all. Don’t know if anything’s changed this year though.518 coasters ridden but who’s counting.? I’m about 325lbs, 6’6 and was at SFFT at the end of April. I couldn’t ride Poltergiest because of my long legs and I couldn’t ride Superman.

How to Avoid Crowds at Six Flags over Texas – No one likes waiting in lines. To avoid them, try to visit the park outside the peak operating season, which is June through August. The extreme heat of Texas summers can actually make weekday crowds light.
- The weather actually drives more people toward the adjacent Hurricane Harbor water park.
- Holidays and concert days are often especially busy.
- Weekdays in April, May, September, October, November, and December are typically the least busy days.
- Always research for special events and concerts that may be going on that can cause abnormally large crowds ( the park is especially busy during spring break ).
Avoid visiting the park during Bring a Friend Free days offered to season pass holders as crowds can be huge. Most major holidays and Mother’s and Father’s days are typically Bring a Friend Free days. If you do plan on going on a busy day and want to avoid the lines, consider purchasing a so you can schedule ride times without actually waiting in line.
